Adrão

Soajo, Arcos de Valdevez

Adrão is situated within the parish of Soajo and in the municipality of Arcos de Valdevez.

The main nucleus of the village is on the right bank of the river Adrão, between altitudes of 600 and 650 meters. It is surrounded by an agricultural area which features terraces extending to the valley bottom where the soils are more fertile. The resident community still practices subsistence farming in the traditional manner, although the presence of abandoned fields is also obvious. Part of the community has emigrated and others have left for the towns and cities in search of jobs and better conditions for the education of their children.

Its location below the steep slopes of the largest hills in the Serra do Soajo mountain system, namely the peaks of Pedrada (1416 meters) and Outeiro Maior (1389 meters) endow Adrão with a true mountain environment. Fresh water from the springs of Outeiro Maior flow through the village before joining the river Adrão, providing pure crystalline waters which are welcomed by cattle herders, refresh many hikers on their way and pilgrims who are heading towards Sr. da Paz (to the south) or Sra. da Peneda (to the north).
