Xertelo is the highest settlement in Cabril, located at about 700 meters above sea level on the watershed that separates the waters that flow to the river Cabril from those that flow to the River Cávado. The housing nucleus is a beautiful example of popular architecture, with its granite built dwellings, chapel, cross and mill. The village forms part of a very interesting landscape patchwork with the contrasts between the rugged mountain range, the agricultural areas and the woodlands. Xertelo's Fojo do Lobo is an identifying symbol for the community, a legacy that they make a point of preserving and valuing.
