Veigas Leisure Area offers some recreational facilities including a picnic area, cycleway, open arena and a playground. The main building was once a forest Ranger’s House, which points to the forest management regime and presence of the forestry authority at the time of the Salazar dictatorship and the peak of local ‘Castrejo’ men abandoning the area to go to foreign lands. The women were left behind and it was they who cared for the children, the fields and the animals. After a man emigrated his wife would dress in black ("widow of a Living man") and would only cease such mourning on his return.
