Salas reservoir is shared between Portugal and Spain and is much appreciated for its beautiful scenery and the biodiversity that it features. It is an area of great ornithological interest where there exists a remarkable diversity of avifaunal species. Of note are snipe, the heron, great crested grebe and mallard. For many years there have been various campaigns of bird ringing here, bringing to Tourém many specialists who help in the understanding of bird species and their migratory routes. It is undoubtedly one of the most recommended areas for ornithologists and lovers of wildlife photography.
