Archaeological complex of Porto Chão

Lindoso, Ponte da Barca

In the area of Porto Chão can be found various traces from different periods of occupation of these lands. The most evident is the so-called Village of Porto Chão, a mountain settlement, possibly medieval, where the ruins of several quadrangular and rectangular drystone walled houses have been identified, surrounded by a kind of small wall (now in ruins). In addition to the settlement this area is also known for its traces of rock art (concentric rings and hollows, possibly of the Bronze Age) and prehistoric tumuli.

Nearby is one of the old houses of the forestry services, with the usual outhouses, in particular the oven. Alongside and conforming to the standard layout of these forestry buildings which were constructed under the Estado Novo regime, is a water tank and a tree nursery.
