Azeral Font

Vilar da Veiga, Terras de Bouro

One of the features of the Gerês mountain range is the numerous sources of cold and crystalline water that occur, often alongside the roads and forest tracks. Many of them are a legacy of the Forestry Services from the time of the Estado Novo. The huge river network and the abundance of springs in the Gerês mountain range has been able to support this density of fountains and drinking troughs, used by both men and animals.

Some of these fonts, such as Azeral, were conceived and have been maintained to this day as leisure areas, with abundant shade for visitors to enjoy.
