The small village of Azevedo is located at about 600 meters above sea level on the slopes of the right bank of the River Cávado, facing east, to where its small patch of cultivation is orientated and which provides subsistence agriculture for the few resident families. Apparently with its back turned to the Gerês mountains, it has been here that over generations the community has drawn its principal income, either through animal husbandry and other complementary economic activities (such as beekeeping), or by the use of common land resources such as firewood, building stone, forage, among others.
