Mixed Woodland

Lamas de Mouro, Melgaço

There extends along the banks of the river Mouro a wooded area containing various tree species, predominantly birch, Pyrenean pine and other exotic resinous trees (species originating from other countries) that were planted by the Forestry Service, before the National Park was established. This mixture of tree species results in good luminosity in the interior of the forest, which, linked with the presence of the river and the constantly high relative humidity, encourages the herbaceous cover and shrouds of moss, almost always green, giving the whole area a certain bucolic flavour. Concerning the fauna present here, Schreibers lizard, robin, blue tit, coal tit and the common squirrel are all to be seen.
