Branda de Bilhares is one of the highlights of this stage. It is an ancient temporary mountain village, which still has traces of the Roman occupation of the area. Around the settlement of note are lameiros (water-meadows) and the levadas that channel water to the fields, systems of great importance to the peoples of this mountain area. In the lameiros three species of wild orchid found in the National Park can be seen in flower at the right time of year (May to August).
