A tributary of the Froufe River, the Carcerelha is a mountain stream set in a deep valley, with crystal clear water lagoons, much frequented by practitioners of canyoning. Downstream of the bridge are two consecutive waterfalls, the second being the origin of a deep natural pool, ideal for some diving. In the upper section of the stream, upstream of the bridge, there is also no shortage of pools and waterfalls, albeit of smaller dimension.
This water course is the predominant feature in the landscape, being a deep, V shaped valley that can best be appreciated as we climb up the footpath on the left bank of the Carcerelha.
