The oak woods the Peneda-Gerês national park are stratified mixed forests, where the most frequent trees are European oak and Pyrenean oak and which are home to a huge diversity of wildlife species, constituting a habitat of huge ecological importance. The trunks and branches of the oaks host various species of lichens, usually indicators of low air pollution. The oak wood around the village of Pincães is a relatively well-maintained native forest where the oak predominates, in association with other characteristic species of this type of habitat such as wild pear, holly, chestnut trees and various shrubs and herbaceous species. In terms of fauna it is possible to find deer, marten, goshawk, great spotted woodpecker, amongst others and even some indications of the presence of the wolf.
