A rural landscape is preserved around the village of Cortinhas where the extensive level area of farmed fields stands out, in a patchwork mixed in with broadleaf copses, tree-lined water channels and areas of scrub.

Overlooking the farm track there are several espigueiros, regularly aligned and facing south in order to gain the maximum hours of sunlight.
