Fafião is one of the 15 hamlets in the parish of Cabril. A village of community-based pastoral activity that jealously guards the preservation of its identity and culture. Here you can find physical/architectural medieval traits and experience the ancient culture and traditions that have been passed down from generation to generation.
In Fafião you should not fail to visit the fojo do Lobo (wolf trap), the river Toco (Fafião River), Lagar do Azeite and Moinho da Cancela, the Barroso Ecomuseum nucleus and mountain corrals with their shepherd shelters (recommended with a guide). As a special experience, nothing could be better than accompanying a shepherd with the communal flock for a day!
The enormous built, ethnographic, knowhow and local traditional heritages are now communicated through the Fafião nucleus of the Barroso Ecomuseum, which is promoted by a local association, Vezeira (communal animal husbandry), which has greatly contributed to the preservation of Fafião's identity. The central theme of this Ecomuseum is the "Vezeira and the Serra" and aims to disseminate the associated cultural, natural and social heritage, seeking dynamism and a balance between pastoral and tourist activities.
