Lagar de Pincães

Cabril, Montalegre

This is a good example of an old communal olive oil press which still retains its principal mechanical parts. The village of Pincães was one of the few places where olive oil production formed part of the annual agricultural cycle, providing a livelihood for the local population. The months of December and January were dedicated to harvesting the olives and extracting the oil. Exchanging olive oil for products from other parts of the county was a common practice. Following the restoration of the communal olive press the locals revive memories and above all are able to show to the younger people the traditional process of extracting olive oil.
