Loivos

Fiães do Rio, Montalegre

The small village of Loivos is located outside the limits of the Peneda-Gerês National Park and lies on the left bank of the Cávado River; even so it is still considered to offer one of the most beautiful landscapes of the Barroso region. The village has two distinct centres, one with more recent dwellings, whilst the other retains the old architectural form, indicating that this was the original centre. Within the village there is no shortage of details and points of interest to be seen, such as the huge espigueiro that is close to the church, certainly one of the largest in the region. Outside the village extends an amazing flat area with water-meadows and cultivated fields which form part of this beautiful landscape.
