In São Lourenço village there are traces of the old communal olive press, recalling the times when the months of December and January were dedicated to harvesting olives and extracting the oil. The villages around Cabril are amongst the few within the National Park where we find such buildings, a sign that olive oil production formed part of the agricultural activity of these communities, the olive being an important resource in the livelihood of families. Olive oil was even used for bartering, the families who had this commodity exchanging it for products they did not have.
