In Outeiro we come across a unique landscape in which the main features are the huge expanse of reflecting water of the Paradela reservoir, the green of the water-meadows, the patches of autochthonous oak woods and the peaks of the Gerês mountains. The rustic centre is well preserved, retaining several buildings in their original architectural form thereby conserving the collective constructed heritage which also includes the communal threshing floor, fountains, the wash tank and the water font. Also noteworthy is the imposing Parish Church with its bell tower erected in front of the main façade of the church. The most important economic activity is cattle breeding, complemented by smoke-curing, beekeeping and handicrafts. More recently there are new dynamics related to tourist activity, an important support facility for the many visitors and hikers who depart from here towards the mountains and arrive back here after being in the hills
