Paradela is situated on the slopes of the left bank of the Cávado River overlooking Paradela reservoir and is one of the main entrance points to the National Park. It was here that the workers were received and accommodated during the construction of the dam, bringing with them at the time an interesting social and economic dynamic which also explains the apparent loss of character of the village. The oldest and most authentic part of the village is to be found in its centre. Here we can see the most typical houses, fountains and drinking fonts, espigueiros (maize stores) and the church with its two bell towers, one on the church itself and the other apart in the churchyard, on the ground of which can be seen a number of slabs covering graves, most with funerary inscriptions.
