The village of Paredes do Rio contains an unusually rich architectural heritage, having been the subject of restoration it remains one of the best preserved villages in the area of the Peneda-Gerês National Park. It is a village where crafts, customs and traditions remain alive, although there are already few of the older artisans remaining. Within the structural heritage the communal oven is outstanding, as well as the espigueiros, the group of watermills, the old irrigation structures and the press, used in the past to make felt. The Paredes do Rio press was the object of restoration at the initiative of the National Park and is now used and maintained by the local community, where a village official is in charge of opening up the building to people who want to visit it.
