The Cabril stream is a right bank tributary of the Cávado River, which flows into the salamonde reservoir, one of the many dams built along the Cávado. The Salamonde reservoir started filling in 1953, bringing with it major changes in the landscape, climate and way of life of the local people, particularly in agricultural practices. Today, after more than 60 years, few can still remember Cabril without the huge sheet of water. In addition to contributing to the beauty of the landscape this reservoir is highly sought after by visitors for recreational fishing and water sports.
In the most severe periods of drought or during maintenance activity on the dam when the water level drops considerably, it is possible to see the Roman style "old bridge" over the Cabril stream.
