Located between the slopes of the Serra Amarela and the Serra do Gerês, the Vilarinho da Furna dam is an inescapable feature in the landscape and of the history of this locality. Its construction started in 1968 and was marked by the anger and resistance of the people of Vilarinho da Furna, the communal village that was eventually submerged by the waters of the reservoir.
A few meters from the dam in an old structure left over from the construction period, is the Interpretative Center of Vilarinho da Furna that you can visit and learn a little more about the history of the village and the Vilarinho dam.
