Near to the village and alongside one of the old tracks that Xertelo's inhabitants use for access to the hills, stands the simple, unimproved Cross of Xertelo.
Such crosses represent the communal spirit of religious devotion. They are reference points of Christianity and, in Christian areas, are a symbol of belief and respect for the villages.
The exact reason for the erection of this particular cross is not known, but it was probably related to the need to instill Christianity in a place of pagan practices and rituals, understood as evil by the local people, or to protect the population, fields and animals, or to protect walkers since it is on the side of an ancient track, or to mark the spot of a remarkable event.
